In 2021, 315 million prescriptions were dispensed in Australia. Many of these prescriptions were pills and powders in plastic tubs and containers or were in plastic-covered foils.

A lot of the time, these plastic bottles and foils used in pharmacy are non-recyclable and may not be recycled correctly anyway.

As an extension to our philosophy of nurturing the human ecosystems we also have a commitment to ensure other natural ecosystems are not impacted by our actions. We strive to reduce plastic waste and improve the way pharmacy is practiced in Australia. To this end, Formulae uses plastic free capsule bottles.

Our capsule bottles are 100% compostable. This means they can be disposed with food scraps and will break down in the garden.

Our cosmetics bottles are 100% recyclable, and we are transitioning towards re-useable, refillable, cosmetics bottles in the near future. When you make fresh skincare on a person-by-person basis, this becomes possible.

We also prefer to use re-useable cold bags made of neoprene rather than polystyrene coolers.
